The Illlini 4000 group is stopping in DC from May 30th through June 1st on their cross-country bike ride from New York City to San Francisco.  The Illini 4000 is a non-profit student organization dedicated to documenting the American cancer experience through The Portraits Project, raising funds for cancer research and patient support services, as well as spreading awareness for the fight against cancer through annual cross-country bike rides. This is the 18th year for the Illini 4000 riders.

The group arrives in DC on May 30th and departs on the morning of June 1st.  Their first "rest day" for their journey will be spend in DC on May 31st.  We have several alumni hosting the 18 riders in this year's group in their homes for 2 nights.

There are additional ways you can support the group!  If interested, please consider the options below.

  1. Do you have your own cancer story to share for their Portraits Project?  If yes, we will connect you with them while they are in town.  Contact Jennifer Nevius.
  2. Sponsor food for one rider for dinner and 2 breakfasts while they are in town ($30).  You can sponsor a rider by clicking here.
  3. Donate any amount to allow our club to purchase food and supplies for their ride.  Please click here for this option.
  4. Provide an in kind donation such as non-perishable food items, sunscreen, bug spray, Walmart gift cards, gas cards (for their support van), etc. If you have in kind donations, we will coordinate a pick up time and location with you.
  5. For a tax deductible donation, you can donate directly to the Illini 4000’s 501(c)(3) and add a remark about the DC Illini.

Thank you in advance for any support you're willing to provide the 2024 team!
