DC Illini: Volunteer Event

Join us for DC Illini Club's annual volunteer event to support our local community!

We will be supporting A Wider Circle and will likely be accepting and sorting donations--which will involve some physical labor.  This organization's mission is to advance equity in the greater Washington, DC region by fostering the exchange of goods, skills, and connections from neighbor to neighbor, and by engaging in advocacy to address the root causes of poverty.

UIAA encourages each club to participate in a philanthropy event each year.  Past years' events have included a park clean-up, sorting donations at a site for women's and children's clothing, along with working at a food bank and a kitchen supporting the unhoused population in DC.

Event Highlights:

• Give to our local community while positively representing the University of Illinois!
• Networking Opportunities: Forge valuable connections with Illini from across the DC area, representing a wide range of industries and professions.

Free T-shirt for participants!  You must be fully signed up by June 6th to get the free t-shirt.  UIAA sends us the t-shirts once we submit the list of registered volunteers.  UIAA requires 2-weeks notice to ensure the t-shirts arrive prior to the event.  The design to the right will be on the t-shirts we receive.
 

How to sign up:  There's a 3-step process to sign-up and get your t-shirt on the day of the event.

1) Create an account with the organization's volunteer portal--this includes an online form and waivers.  Click HERE to register.

2) Once you receive an email stating your account and waivers have been approved (may take up to 2 business days), then sign up for our DC Illini event HERE.  Add yourself as an "individual" and then your participation will be captured for our group.

3) After you're registered with the volunteer portal, send an email to DCIlliniEvents@gmail.com and tell us that you are registered and give us your t-shirt size (S/M/L/XL).

Transportation Information:  For those who need to take the Metro to Silver Spring, we can pick you up and take you to the event location.  If you need a ride, let us know in the email you send with your t-shirt size.
 

If you're unable to volunteer with us on June 20th, you may also support with a monetary donation or donate clothing or household items that are in suitable condition to provide to families in need.
